ABOUT THE CLASS

Is there such thing as an American religion? If so, it is shaped as much by the great films, as it is by any particular faith.

This course explores three unique works that have shaped the great American myth.

Be it the myth that whatever we seek is truly within from The Wizard of Oz.

The idea that our existence is vital to the framework of life itself, as It’s a Wonderful Life teaches us,
or the primacy of true love, as taught in The Princess Bride, which proclaims, “Not even death can stop true love;
it can only delay it a little while.”

We will explore the impact these works of writing and film have had on American spirituality, as well as on our own
individual lives and spiritual beliefs.
